Compatibility planning is not a single yes-or-no question. A release can match the game version and still conflict with another mod, a recipe layer or a rendering change.
Build a compatibility stack
Think in layers: game version, Fabric loader, required dependencies, Create release, then the wider modpack. Verify them in that order.
Test the smallest useful stack
A smaller baseline makes it easier to distinguish a hard requirement from an optional conflict.
Separate hard requirements from optional additions
Required dependencies belong in the base test. Optional shaders, resource packs, recipe mods and performance tools should be added later so they do not hide the source of an error.
Use controlled reintroduction
If the full pack fails but the clean profile works, add the remaining mods back in logical batches. When a batch causes the issue, split it again until the conflict is identified.
Document working combinations
Write down the working version set. A reliable modpack is easier to maintain when you know exactly which combination was tested together.
